How a clip gets made

From the audio file to the published clip: the eight steps, in order, and the three moments where only the ear can decide.

It starts from the music, never the picture

The music exists before anything else. A clip starts from an audio file — the loop, played and recorded — and everything else hangs off it. The other way around doesn't work: a picture decided in advance imposes its own rhythm on a piece that already has one.

1. Find the tempo and the grid

The first thing a script looks for is the tempo, then the bar grid: where each "1" lands. The entire edit rests on that, so we don't guess. We render a metronome over the track and we listen to it.

This is the first of three stops where no measurement replaces the ear. A grid can be perfectly regular and locked to the wrong beat — the third instead of the first. The math says everything is fine either way. It has happened twice.

2. Lay the shots onto the grid

Shots are placed on the track's bar grid, not on seconds. So a cut always lands on a beat, and that's what makes an edit feel right without anyone knowing why.

By this step the cost of the clip is already known: the number of shots times the price of an image and a loop. We look at it before spending, not after.

3. Make the images

Every shot starts from a generated still. The set, the mechanism, the material: the belfry, the loom, the noria.

An image costs a few cents, a video costs more. So we look at every image before animating anything — that's the second stop. A contact sheet, and a decision by eye. A direction you don't like, discovered after animating, means starting over.

4. Set them moving

Approved images become video loops. A loop has to come back around cleanly: the last frame has to meet the first without a visible jump.

That gets measured, and it gets measured twice. A perfect seam can also be the sign that nothing happened at all — a completely frozen video has a flawless seam. So you measure the seam AND the amount of motion. Either one alone tells you nothing.

5. Put the player in the set

Real footage is cut out and dropped into the sets. That's what separates all this from a feed of generated images: you see hands playing.

6. Overlay

On top go the overlays: the sound spectrum, the pulse, the brass emblem. Their positions are measured inside the image, not eyeballed — a plate slightly off-square is spotted immediately and can't be explained away.

7. Watch it

The third stop, and the most important one. We assemble a preview and watch the whole thing. No automatic check replaces this: the flaws that matter — a shot that drags, a seam that lies, a transition landing one beat early — are seen, not computed.

8. Master first, deliverables after

The master comes out with no compression at all. It's heavy, and that's its job: it's the preservation copy, the one everything else is re-exported from.

The files posted to YouTube, Facebook and Instagram are deliverables — compressed, light, disposable. They can be remade as often as needed from the master. Confusing the two is the ordinary mistake, and it's irreversible: what compression removes never comes back.

And the AI, in all this

It does steps 3 and 4: the sets and their motion. It touches nothing else. The music in every step before that is played, on guitar and bass, live, one layer at a time.
